Who We Are

Haywood Mission School is a Christ-centered institution committed to developing morally grounded, academically excellent, and spiritually empowered young people. Since 1931, we have been a beacon of Christian education, discipline, and integrity in Liberia.

Mission: Reaching, training, and disciplining young lives for Christ while preparing them for academic success and responsible citizenship.

Vision: To be a leading Christian educational institution in Liberia—combining academic excellence, spiritual formation, moral discipline, and structural innovation to prepare students for higher learning and purposeful living.

Junior High and Senior High students train in labs, mentorship groups, and WAEC prep sessions to keep Haywood among the best.

Our Founder & Heritage

Mrs. M. C. Bennette

Native-born Liberian, taken away as a child to America as a slave. Returned in 1931 with a mandate to free young Liberians from ignorance through Christian education.

  • Reunited with her mother by a scar during Bible study — “This is my child!”
  • Secured and gifted 10 acres on Old Road, Sinkor, to PAW for the mission.
  • Opened as an elementary school with 20 students and one teacher.
  • Later stepped back as principal but remained the founder; said to have lived to 105.
Why the Name Haywood?

Bishop Garfield T. Haywood

Named in honor of Bishop Garfield T. Haywood, a minister devoted to the welfare of humanity, who passed on April 12, 1931. The name anchors the school in Christian service, sacrifice, and love for people.

“Our name is not just a label; it is a tribute to a life of ministry.”

Christian Identity

Principal’s Message

Let The Lions ROAR!!!

Let me be the first to welcome you to Haywood! We are truly “The BEST AMONG the REST!”—the proud home of the Lions of Judah. When we roar, our enemies must scatter!

It is an honor and a privilege to serve this great institution as its Administrator/Principal. I follow in the footsteps of giants in the field of education: the dynamic Bishop Leo Simpson and Dr. Myra Simpson. Though I cannot fill their shoes, I stand proudly on the foundation they have laid—one built on discipline and excellence.

We remain committed to our bedrock principle of putting God first in all we do as we pursue our mission: to disciple the youth of Liberia. Times have changed, and the needs, culture, and socio-economic landscape continue to evolve. Yet we are committed to rising to the occasion, using all our resources to be a solution in the lives of our students.

I look forward to serving you as we partner together to continue molding our young people into the leaders God has called them to be for a better Liberia tomorrow.

Let the Lions ROAR!
